Overview: The Career Exploration department and Macalester College is seeking to hire an Associate Director of STEM Career Advising. This Associate Director serves as the primary career advisor to STEM undergraduates on topics related to career development, including major/career exploration, job/internship search strategies, job offer evaluation/negotiation and graduate school applications. Additionally this position partners with faculty, staff and pre-health advisors to develop and evaluate programs to serve these needs, including individual and group programming. The Associate Director of STEM Career Advising serves as a key connector between STEM students and faculty and the Career Exploration’s Employer Engagement team, providing insight into industry trends, student interest and connecting employers and alumni to STEM students. This role reports to the Director of Career Advising and Student Engagement, and will be housed approximately 75% time in the HUB, Olin-Rice Science Center. The Associate Director works closely with the Career Exploration career advising team to provide exceptional career development support to the Macalester community.

Responsibilities: Career Advising and Counseling:

Serve as primary career advisor to STEM undergraduates on topics related to their career development, including major/career exploration, job/internship search strategies, job offer evaluation/negotiation and graduate school applications
Write and develop resources on career-related topics
Conduct practice interviews with students, providing feedback to foster student development
Provide support and guidance to a diverse student population in their career exploration
Administer interpretations of career assessments.
Provide individualized and group resume and cover letter reviews

Program Development and Evaluation: *

Work closely with pre-health advisors and other STEM faculty to coordinate annual plan for Olin-Rice career programming and support
Develop and present career related workshops and panels for STEM students
Coordinate mock interview days for STEM students, collaborating with the employer engagement staff to recruit employer and alumni volunteers
Assist with STEM-focused career fairs
Build and deliver career programming that is accessible and equitable to support the diverse needs of Macalester students
Evaluate workshops and programs
Partner with Residential Life to integrate Sophomore Year Experience into career curriculum
Work with pre-health advisors and other STEM faculty and alumni relations and development staff to coordinate STEM-related alumni events
Serve as key staff leader in The Hub and connect students with resources for student research.

2021 Senior Showcase - Commencement - Macalester College

Develop and implement a career skills curriculum for all Macalester students spanning all aspects of the “explore, design, connect, launch” career skills framework
Champion scaled deployment of the curriculum to ensure all students have access to career exploration and skills development; partner with Career Exploration staff and key campus partners to integrate curriculum into existing programs
Build tools to assess the impact of career curriculum modules on career competencies; work closely with Director of Student Engagement and Career Counseling to support departmental assessment goals
Work closely with the Assistant Director, Career Advising who leads identify-specific outreach and program development to ensure that the curriculum meets the unique career search needs of BIPOC, first generation, low income, international and LGBTQIA+ students and students with disabilities
Collaborate with employer engagement to integrate employer feedback into the career skills curriculum
Consistently collect data and feedback to inform curriculum development

Outreach*

Create and maintain working relationships with designated academic departments by collaborating with department chairs, faculty and coordinators
Oversee and implement Career Exploration’s outreach through office hours and class presentations
Coordinate with Career Exploration Employer Engagement team to develop STEM-focused local MacExplore and national MacConnect trips
Serve as a liaison between the STEM faculty and students and the Career Exploration Employer Engagement team, providing input on the identification and development of employment and external research opportunities

Qualifications: Required
5+ Years Related Experience
Experience in coaching, career or academic counseling, campus recruiting or related client support role
Experience in building creative and effective programs
Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills
Demonstrated experience creating and supporting diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives
Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with key partners/constituents

Overview: The Business Services Department at Macalester College seeks to hire a Director of Accounting. The Director oversees the day to day operations and performance of the Accounting Department, which includes the production of timely, reliable, understandable financial information for campus constituents, interested outside parties, and regulatory agencies.
Responsibilities: Processing and Reporting:

Manages accounting department staff to a high level of performance in meeting the community’s needs for timely, accurate, accessible financial information.
Provides general supervision and direction on procedures and policies necessary to guide the College’s general ledger operations.
Designs and documents internal operating processes to maximize efficiency, timeliness, and accuracy of financial reports and information.
Actively participates in regular transaction processing or review as needed. This may include direct responsibility for one of more major functional areas, the handling of the more complex elements of a functional area, or the review of transactions to confirm data reasonableness.
Proposes improvements to the general ledger and other system areas as warranted
Audit and Tax:

Oversees and coordinates the College’s annual external financial, A-133 and retirement plan audit processes.
Provides primary interface for preparation of the College’s Forms 990, 990-T and state tax returns
Compliance and Control:

Monitors FASB (Financial Accounting Standards Board) developments. Assists in providing direction and leadership for College compliance with regulatory changes, GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), and established College policies.
Assists in the design of strong internal accounting controls and monitors execution as appropriate.
Service:

Supports campus constituents, as needed, to ensure reliable information flow and effective service delivery.
Coordinates as needed with external parties to ensure timely delivery of accurate information.

Overview:

Macalester College seeks to hire an Office Coordinator to support the Director of Athletics and the athletics department staff. This coordinator will provide administrative duties for a large, complex and diverse department and functions on behalf of the department through problem solving for faculty, staff, students and visitors. Additionally the Athletics Office Coordinator serves as the main point of contact for the department.
Responsibilities:

Manage the financial paperwork for 21 varsity sports programs; working directly with the business office and organize and maintain the daily financial reporting; manage and reconcile monthly credit card statements for the departmental staff; assists with year end budget reconciliation process, performs word processing and spreadsheet functions. Assists with budget planning, reporting, upkeep.
Organize and maintain the department’s records/files; process invoices, check requisitions, contracts for non-employees, deposits, petty cash, and club sport student purchasing. Budgetary approval at the $500 level. Manage staff status forms for part time coaching positions. Collaborate with ITS to manage software contracts. Coordinate varsity and club sport team bus/van travel arrangements and cash advances.
Assist the Director of Athletics with daily administrative duties; Perform other duties including managing calendar, scheduling travel, coordinating itinerary and schedules for candidates and special events, and taking notes in staff meetings
Assist in organizing campus hosted events, NCAA and conference championship events, and departmental fundraising and special events. These events include, but are not limited to, Mac Hac, Back to Mac, Student Athlete Banquet, and Hall of Fame Banquet.
Perform general office duties; orders office supplies; files and retrieves organizational documents, records and reports; answers phone calls, directs callers and solves problems; greets visitors to the department and directs them to the appropriate parties or takes messages. Maintain supplies and equipment in the office work room; sorts and distributes mail to the department. Order meals for department functions/meetings/interviews. Hire and supervise 1-2 student employees per semester.
Act as department liaison for Bon Appetit, MN Coaches and BSN. Collaborates with sport coaches and manages ordering, billing and troubleshooting areas of concern.
Qualifications:

3-5 years of knowledge of office procedures, ability to use databases, all forms of electronic communications and experience with budgets and financial processes are desired.
Associate’s Degree required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Possess excellent computer skills. Experience with Excel, Word and other databases are needed. Experience to perform duties for a large, complex and diverse department are desired.
Ability to review data and produce spreadsheets
Must be able to handle multiple projects and priorities at the same time in a busy, demanding environment and work with many interruptions.
Experience with financial/budgeting preferred.
Support to the Director of Athletics, creating and finishing projects and reports, organizing meetings and support for departmental events.
Must have strong communication skills, ability to write clearly, ability to work independently in a large, busy department, ability to supervise and direct student employees.
