Merit Scholarships

All applicants to Hillsdale College are automatically considered for merit-based scholarships, which can range from $1,000 to full tuition. Most merit scholarships are four-year awards.

Eligibility is based on the strength of a candidate’s application, with emphasis on academic profile. No additional paperwork other than the completed application for admission is required.

Fall term applicants are encouraged to apply by January 1 for priority consideration.

Leadership Scholarships

A select number of Leadership Scholarships based on the strength of a student’s résumé are awarded to fall term candidates who complete their applications by December 1.

These awards recognize involvement in school, church, and community. No additional paperwork other than a completed application for admission (including a résumé of extracurricular activities, leadership, volunteerism, and work experience) is required for consideration.

Talent-Based Scholarships

Students with special talent or distinguished backgrounds in athletics, art, music, or theater may qualify for additional scholarship monies, with each department setting scholarship criteria, deadlines, and requirements.

Endowed Scholarships

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, more than 700 privately-endowed scholarships are available to Hillsdale College students based upon specialized criteria like academic interest, home states, counties, or high schools, or involvements with organizations like Eagle Scouts, Trail Life USA, or the Christian Service Brigade.

While many are reserved for upperclassmen, freshmen are eligible for some awards. No additional paperwork other than a completed application for admission is required for consideration.

Veteran and Military Scholarship

Freedom Scholarships at Hillsdale replace the G.I. Bill for veterans, and when funding is available, in some cases also provide awards for their children.

RaiseMe

Hillsdale College is among hundreds of college partners with RaiseMe, a website and mobile app that allows high school students to earn “micro-scholarships” beginning as early as ninth grade for logging achievements like good grades, test scores, extracurricular activities, and community service.

A complete profile should be submitted to RaiseMe by December 1 of the senior year of high school to receive Hillsdale scholarship consideration.

Outside Scholarships

In addition to applying for scholarship opportunities with Hillsdale, students are encouraged to seek funding from other private, non-governmental sources online and in their home communities.

Awards will be used to supplement and not replace dollars awarded by Hillsdale.
