What is an LPN?

The LPN is the most common position in the healthcare industry, and it stands for Licensed Practical Nurse. These nurses are responsible for providing basic bedside care, such as monitoring vital signs, administering medications and treating wounds. They also assist doctors during procedures, such as drawing blood or giving injections.

What do LPNs do?

There are many different tasks that licensed practical nurses perform daily; some of them include:

  • Taking patient vital signs such as temperature and pulse rate
  • Administering medication to patients under doctor’s orders
  • Treating wounds with bandages and ointments

Prerequisites of the Accelerated LPN Program

The prerequisites for the accelerated LPN program include:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Attend a nursing information session.
  • Take the HESI-A2 (Health Education Systems Inc. Admission Assessment) exam. This is a computerized test that assesses your overall knowledge in math, reading and science areas. You must have a minimum score of 75% on this test in order to be eligible for admission into the Accelerated LPN program at MTU.

There are two versions of this exam: one for students who do not have any science background and one for students who have taken college-level science classes prior to attending this university’s Accelerated LPN Program. If you take either version of this exam, you must also take it within 60 days prior to applying for admission into our program so that we may review your scores before making an offer of acceptance into our program.
