What jobs can a felon not have? Any job that requires a security clearance, any job where you carry a gun, or any government job as there are background checks that are required.
As a felon, you may be wondering if there are any jobs that you can’t have. The answer is yes and no.
There are certain jobs that felons are prohibited from doing, but there are also some jobs that felons can do.
For example, a felon cannot be a police officer or an attorney because these positions require the holder to uphold the law and to take responsibility for their actions and words. However, a felon can become a bank teller or a salesperson because these positions do not require them to uphold the law or be responsible for what they say or do.
If you want to know more about whether or not your job is suitable for felons, consult an attorney who specializes in helping people with criminal records find employment opportunities.
What jobs can a felon not have
Truck Driver
Truck driving is one of the most common jobs for felons, as it is relatively easy to get a CDL, and there are many companies that will hire people with criminal backgrounds.
However, truck drivers do have some restrictions on their job opportunities. For example, if a driver has a felony conviction for burglary or theft and has not been pardoned by the governor, he or she cannot drive any motor vehicle that contains hazardous materials (HAZMAT). A DUI offense also disqualifies a person from driving HAZMAT trucks.
The types of employers who hire felons vary depending on the type of crime committed. Some businesses may require background checks before they offer employment; others may refuse to hire certain kinds of ex-offenders altogether
Law Enforcement
- You can’t be a police officer and work for any of the following:
- Federal, state and local law enforcement agencies
- Parole or probation departments
- Border patrol agents are employees of the Department of Homeland Security, who have special duties that include apprehending people who are illegally crossing the US border.
Doctor or Nurse
A felony conviction will prevent you from working as a doctor or nurse. This is because doctors and nurses have an obligation to keep the health and safety of their patients in mind at all times, which can be difficult if you have ever been convicted of a crime that could make you less likely to act ethically.
However, if your conviction was for a misdemeanor offense that did not involve any risk to others (for example, shoplifting), then you may still be able to work as a doctor or nurse.
If your felony conviction was more than ten years ago and you have completed all terms of your sentence (including probation) then it is unlikely that there would be any problems with getting licensed as a doctor or nurse (although state laws vary).
Teacher
Teaching is a profession that requires you to be in a position of authority over students. You are responsible for their safety, and they look up to you as a role model. Because of this, teachers have stricter requirements than other professionals.
If you’re convicted of certain crimes, such as sex offenses or violent felonies, it’s unlikely that your teaching license will be approved by the state board of education. However, if the crime occurred during your teenage years and did not involve children or animals (or both), chances are good that your license application will be approved once again after eight years have passed from the date of your conviction or release from prison.
Pilot
If you want to become a pilot, you’ll have to find your career elsewhere. You may be able to get an FAA certificate as a flight instructor or examiner, but the federal government will not issue you a pilot’s license.
If you’re interested in becoming a flight attendant, that’s also out of the question: airlines require applicants to submit fingerprints and pass background checks—explaining why they would not hire someone with criminal history.
Real Estate Agent
Real estate agents are not allowed to work in some states. Real estate agents are not allowed to work in some counties. Real estate agents are not allowed to work in some cities and towns, or any other place where they have a license or permit that requires them to be fingerprinted by the local government.
Fingerprinting is required for many jobs, including:
Accountant
An accountant is a person who works in the field of accounting. Accountants can be certified or licensed and they work in many different areas such as public accounting, internal auditing, management consulting and financial services. Depending on the specific service or job description you may have to pass an exam to be certified or licensed by your state’s board of accountancy.
Accountants are not allowed to have felony convictions. If you have one then it will be very difficult for you to find employment in this field due to SEC regulations preventing felons from being able to practice as accountants
Banker
Banks are regulated by the federal government and must adhere to its laws. Banks are required to notify the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) when they hire a felon or conduct business with someone who has been convicted of a felony. The FDIC will then report this information to the Office of Comptroller of Currency, which determines whether or not the bank can continue its operations.
Bankers are also prohibited from employing felons or doing business with them in any capacity. This means that even if you have no intention of being employed as a banker once your debt has been paid off and you have served your time, it may be difficult for you to open up an account at one because banks will not allow you as a customer even after completing everything required by law
Financial Advisor or Broker
A financial advisor is a person who helps you invest your money. They may recommend stocks and bonds, or they may help with your retirement plan. A financial broker is also a person who helps you invest your money, but unlike the advisor, this person works for themselves rather than for their client.
You might think of an advisor as someone who advises on how to spend or save your money; whereas a broker assists in buying and selling investments (such as stocks). In either case, it’s important that both parties understand the difference between these two types of professionals before deciding on one—and if there are any doubts about which type would be more appropriate for your needs, seek out professional advice from someone with experience in this area!
The vast majority of advisors are fiduciaries—which means they are legally obligated to act solely in their client’s best interests at all times—and they can only receive compensation by way of commission fees paid out when transactions occur within their clients’ portfolios; brokers generally do not enjoy this same level of accountability.”
Public Office or Politician
You cannot run for public office. You cannot be a mayor or city council member, nor can you be a judge or police officer. If you are convicted of a felony, you will not be able to hold the positions of parole officer or probation officer either.
If you do not have a felony conviction it is best to not get one.
If you do not have a felony conviction it is best to not get one. A felony conviction can make it difficult to find a job, get a loan, or even rent an apartment. Felony convictions are very serious and carry severe penalties. You should not take the risk of getting charged with a crime that could result in jail time and then having to deal with the consequences for years after your release from prison.
