Typically, 16 year olds who live in the United States can go through a lot of options for what jobs they can get. They are able to work in some fast food chains and even sell products on their own. However, it will depend on their parents’ permit whether they will allow them to do it or not. Nonetheless, there are still other good options that you can consider when you are 16 years old and applied for a job.
There are a number of jobs that 16 year olds can get, but it’s important to know that there are some jobs that you won’t be able to do until you are older. For example, if you want to work as a lifeguard at a swimming pool, this isn’t going to happen until you turn 18. However, there are lots more jobs available for 16 year olds and these include:
-Working in retail stores as sales assistants or cashiers
-Working on farms or in gardens as farm hands or gardeners
-Working as waiters and waitresses in restaurants
-Working in customer service roles for companies
What jobs can 16 year olds work at
Teenagers are no longer limited to jobs like babysitting and paper routes. Today’s 16-year-olds have access to a wide range of employment opportunities, from retail and food service positions, to gigs that allow them to work remotely and set their own schedules.
Fast Food Worker
- A fast food worker can earn $7.25 an hour, which is the minimum wage in most places.
- They also get paid vacation time, sick days and holidays. It’s very common for them to get paid overtime when they work more than 40 hours a week or have to stay longer than usual due to other workers being absent or not showing up.
Grocery Store Clerk
If you’re looking for a job with plenty of flexibility and hours, working at a grocery store might be the way to go. Grocery store clerks are responsible for stocking shelves and helping customers select products from the store’s inventory. The hours tend to be longer than in other retail positions, but there is usually greater availability when it comes to evening shifts.
When it comes to requirements, most employers will want you to have a high school diploma or GED certificate before hiring you as a grocery store clerk. Most stores also require their employees to pass background checks that include drug tests and criminal record checks before they can start working. Salary expectations vary depending on location, but according to Indeed’s data on salaries in 2018, those who worked at supermarkets made an average annual wage of $24 per hour (as opposed to $15 per hour at general merchandise stores).
If you want to work in retail, you can apply at a clothing store, shoe store or toy store. If you want to work at a grocery store, department store or hardware store, then head on over to your local shopping mall and start applying for jobs there.
If you’re looking for a way to earn money, exercise and meet people, dog walking is a great option.
As a dog walker, you’ll spend your day walking dogs around the neighborhood or in nearby parks. You can expect to take care of the dogs and their owners’ needs while they are away working or running errands.
Dog walkers need to have knowledge about how to train dogs as well as be able to understand canine behavior and body language. You should also know basic first aid techniques because it’s likely that you will be administering them at some point during your career as a dog walker.
Camp counselors are responsible for the safety and well being of the children in their group. The camp counselor must be able to lead activities, handle emergencies, and problem solve problems as they arise.
Camp counselors are also required to take care of themselves while at camp. Camp counselors need to eat healthy meals that will help them stay energetic throughout the day, exercise regularly so that they remain fit enough for any physical activity that might come up during the day (such as horseback riding), and get adequate sleep so that they can function properly each morning before heading out on duty.
You may have heard the term hostess, but in restaurants it’s becoming more common to use the term host. Hosts are responsible for making sure that customers who enter a restaurant are seated, and they also have to make sure that everyone is taken care of by properly waiting on them during their meal. Once you’ve been seated, your host will take your drink order and bring it back when it’s ready. If there is an issue with your meal or service in any way, the host will resolve these problems as quickly as possible so that guests don’t have to wait too long before getting back to enjoying their food.
The host/hostess is responsible for keeping everything clean at all times so that customers feel comfortable eating there. Some restaurants even require their hosts/hostesses to wear white gloves (which makes them look very professional).
To become a lifeguard, you must be at least 16 years old and meet the following requirements:
- You have to be in good physical condition.
- You have to be able to swim well enough to rescue people from drowning.
- You should know how to read water safety rules and interpret them correctly.
- You should know how to respond quickly in an emergency situation, such as an injury or drowning victim who needs help quickly. This includes knowing how much time it takes for someone who has drowned (or other injuries) before they can be saved by someone outside of the water (like yourself).
You also need to work well with others on your team, which can include lifeguards who are older than you as well as younger ones. They’ll all need everyone else’s help if there’s an emergency that requires everyone working together!

A person can have a good job at 16.

The first thing to consider when looking for a job is finding one that fits your personality and interests. A person who loves animals might enjoy working at an animal shelter or pet store, while another person who loves art could find fulfillment working in an artist’s studio.
